Young Euro Classic Orchestra Russia - Germany

Opening concert of the Year of Germany in Russia

“Germany & Russia – Shaping the Future Together” was the motto of the German Year in Russia that began on 20 June 2012. The LANXESS AG had the honour of officially opening the Culture Year with a festive concert of the Young Euro Classic Orchestra Russia – Germany. The concert took place at the Great Hall of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, with many high-ranking Russian and German representatives from politics, business and culture in attendance.

Following the formation of bi-national Young Euro Classic Orchestras in China, India and Japan as part of the LANXESS Young Euro Classics, young musicians from Russia and Germany gathered in the Young Euro Classic Orchestra Russia – Germany and presented this special concert. And, as always, the performers were absolutely outstanding: students from the renowned Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory and their German colleagues from the University of the Arts in Berlin. At the piano – a true master: Gerhard Oppitz.

The programme was, as was the occasion, defined by Russian and German masterworks. Dmitri Shostakovich’s 9th Symphony E-flat major op. 70, Ludwig van Beethoven’s Fantasy for Piano, Choir and Orchestra C minor op. 80 and choral works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Alfred Schnittke.

The opening festivities of the German Year in Russia already commenced in the afternoon of 20 June with the opening of the exhibition “Russians and Germans – 1000 Years in Arts, History and Culture” in cooperation with the Prussian Heritage Foundation. The musical setting was, once again, provided by a group of musicians from the Young Euro Classic Orchestra.

The LANXESS AG was the exclusive partner of the event.
