At the WDR, he was a reporter and editor before moving into the TV editorship in 1980. Since 1988, he has been the editor in charge of numerous special editions and Brennpunkt episodes on the political changes in Europe. During his tenure as the Editor-in-Chief for the ARD news broadcasts, he introduced additional Tagesschau news editions in the morning, at noon and in the afternoons, starting in 1991. During the further course of his career, he was Editor-in-Chief of the ARD’s Berlin Capital Studio from 1999 to 2002 and TV Programming Director of the WDR from 2002 to 2007. Since May 2007, Ulrich Deppendorf has once again been Studio Director and TV Editor-in-Chief of the ARD Capital Studio. Apart from many special broadcasts on elections or political Brennpunkt episodes, the TV editor regularly moderates the Sunday night Bericht aus Berlin (Report from Berlin) on the ARD channel.
