Martina Filjak
Filjak is one of the most talented Croatian musicians of the younger generation today. She came to the world’s attention over the last two years as her result of her success at some of the most important piano competitions: in 2009, she won first prize and several special prizes (for the best Beethoven interpretation, for example) as part of the Cleveland International Piano Competition, as well as the Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli prize in Italy. In 2008, she won first prize in the “Maria Canals” Music Competition in Barcelona. She has performed in a number of major venues including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Palau de la Música in Barcelona, the Vienna Musikverein, Carnegie Hall in New York and Oriental Art Center in Shanghai. Martina Filjak began her professional education at the Zagreb Academy of Music and at the Konservatorium Wien University. She conducted further studies with Stephen Kovacevich, Cyprien Katsaris, Leon Fleisher, Charles Rosen, Andreas Staier and Fou Ts’ong. The pianist is currently continuing her studies at the Hanover University of Music and Drama with Prof. Mi-Kyung Kim. The artist’s repertoire consists of almost 30 works for piano and orchestra, and a broad spectrum of chamber music and solo literature from the 17th century to the present.
