Jelena Dabić

Jelena Dabić was born in 1982 in Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia. She studied musical theory and composition at the Academy of the Arts in Novi Sad. She also took part in composition courses and workshops with Peter Michael Hamel (Hamburg), James Clarke (London), Aleksandra Vrebalov (New York/Novi Sad), Michael Rose and Edward Ficklin (New York). In 2007/2008, she was engaged as a tutor at the Academy of the Arts in Novi Sad, teaching the subject of ethnomusicology.

Since October 2008, Jelena Dabić has attended the master class in composition at the University of Music and the Performing Arts in Munich with Prof. Jan Müller-Wieland. She has received a number of commissions for new compositions, among others through the Siemens Arts Programme and the Munich Biennale 2010, where five short operas by Jelena Dabić and four other composers were performed under the title “Why Do I Not Know”. Jelena Dabić’s connection to the Young Euro Classic Orchestra Southeastern Europe is a very special one. In 2010 her composition “Beetaphase” had its world premiere with the Young Euro Classic Orchestra Southeastern Europe.
