Julia Kociuban
Born in 1992 in Kraków, Julia Kociuban began taking music lessons at the age of five. She was a pupil of Olga Łazarska and a student of Prof. Piotr Paleczny at the Frédéric Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. She has won prizes at many international piano competitions, including the Milosz Magin Piano Competition in Paris 2005, the Chopin Children’s Competition in Jelenia Góra 2005, the international competition for young pianists “A step towards mastery” in St. Petersburg 2007, and the National Frédéric Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw 2008. In 2000, Julia Kociuban was discovered by the National Children’s Fund in Warsaw as an outstanding young talent and has since been awarded several bursaries. She has worked with tutors and pianists such as Victor Merzhanov, Ivan Monighetti, Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń, Jacques Rouvier, Tamás Ungár, Klaus Hellwig and Oleg Maisenberg. From 2006 - 2009 Julia Kociuban took part in master classes at the International Chopin Festival in Duszniki Zdrój. Her concert performances have taken her to France, Germany, Russia, Estonia, Canada, Austria, Lithuania, Switzerland and the US. Julia Kociuban has played as a soloist with many Polish, Russian and Estonian philharmonic orchestras and as a chamber musician in the “family trio” together with her brothers.
