Alexander Schimpf
Since Alexander Schimpf won both the German Music Competition 2008 and the International Beethoven Competition in Vienna 2009, he has been feted as a promising musician of the young generation, and is being invited to perform both nationally and internationally with increasing regularity. Born in 1981 in Göttingen, he was tutored during his school years by Wolfgang Manz in Hanover, later at the University of Music in Dresden with Winfried Apel and over a number of years with Bernd Glemser in Würzburg. The French pianist Cécile Ousset also had a significant impact on the young man. For the 2009/10 season he was selected by the German Music Council for the “Concerts by Young Artists” programme. He has already performed in many German concert halls such as the Gasteig Munich, NDR Hanover and Beethovenhaus Bonn, and at festivals such as the Oberstdorf Music Summer, the Heidelberg Spring and the Ludwigsburg Palace Festival. The pianist has received invitations to play in the “Auditorium du Louvre” and the “Salle Cortot” in Paris, as well as in Italy, Austria, Switzerland and England. His concerts have been broadcast on BR, NDR, SWR, ORF and Radio France. His first CD, which has just been released, was produced in cooperation with Deutschlandradio Kultur and GENUIN.
