The future of two countries is being played out in this very special ensemble, this year’s Young Euro Classic “audience orchestra”: German students at the Folkwang University of the Arts, students at Turkish music schools in Istanbul and music students from all over Germany with a Turkish-migrant background meet on stage to mark 50 years of shared history between Germany and Turkey. This intercultural musical dialogue is to be enhanced by a classical Ottoman instrumental ensemble from Turkey. At a six-day orchestral academy in Berlin from 3 – 8 August 2011, the young musicians will rehearse a Turkish-German concert programme under the direction of renowned Turkish conductor Cem Mansur and with the support of experienced German tutors. This joint working phase will officially culminate in a concert and a joint Young Euro Classic celebration involving both audience and musicians at the Konzerthaus on Berlin’s Gendarmenmarkt.
