The Orchestre Français des Jeunes (OFJ) was founded in 1982 by the French Ministry of Culture. Following the example of existing youth orchestras in Europe, it gives young musicians striving for an orchestra career a professional education and a solid knowledge of orchestra life. Thus, every year the OFJ offers several hundred highly talented students of conservatories and music academies the opportunity to work under professional conditions and under the baton of internationally renowned conductors, performing at the best concert halls in France and Europe. Since its founding, the OFJ has been conducted frequently by Sylvain Cambreling, Marek Janowski and Jesús López Cobos. Currently, Dennis Russell Davies is Chief Conductor of the Orchestra Français des Jeunes.
