Montreal Symphony Youth Orchestra

Canada

The Orchestre Symphonique des Jeunes de Montréal (Montreal Youth Symphony Orchestra) was set up in 1976 by Sandra Wilson. Since then it has been fortunate to have been led by three distinguished artistic directors:
Jacques Clement, Mario Duschesne and, since 1986, Lous Lavigueur.

Each year the Orchestre Symphonique des Jeunes de Montréal brings together some 60 musicians between the ages of 13 and 25. That means that a total of around 900 young musicians have profited from the kind of high-quality tuition and supervision that has enabled them to go on and join the ranks of professional orchestras in Québec, throughout the rest of Canada, across the US, and around Europe.

The OSJM has been on tour in the Canadian provinces of Québec, Ontario and Alberta, as well as in Scotland, Greece and France. Its repertoire ranges from works by Mozart through to compositions by Mahler, Debussy and Shostakovich.
