The Joven Orquesta Nacional de España (National Youth Orchestra of Spain) was founded in 1983 with the goal of giving a platform to the most talented young Spanish musicians. Up to the age of 23, they gather valuable experience here and expand their musical abilities, studying symphonic repertoire and chamber music. The orchestra meets up to six times a year for intensive working sessions. Taught by professional musicians and experienced docents, the young talents experience full immersion in musical practice and theory. Each of these working sessions culminates in a concert tour through Spain and abroad. A special focus of the orchestra lies on contemporary music. This led to the founding of the Contemporary Music Academy, where contemporary programs are rehearsed and performed in the presence of the composers.
