European Union Youth Orchestra
Europe
Under the leadership of the world’s best conductors, the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) unites the most talented young musicians from all 27 member states of the European Union in an orchestra transcending cultural boundaries. Since its founding in 1976, the orchestra may be considered the European youth orchestra par excellence: the EUYO Honorary President is the President of the European Parliament and the patronage is taken on by the heads of government of the EU Member States. The 140 musicians of the orchestra are selected every year from among more than 4,000 candidates aged 14 to 24. Since its founding, the orchestra – under the batons of Claudio Abbado, Bernard Haitink and Vladimir Ashkenazy – has paved the way to professional careers in music for more than 90% of its participants.
