Auckland Youth Symphony Orchestra
New Zealand
The Auckland Youth Symphony Orchestra was founded back in 1948, making it the first ever orchestra of its kind in Australasia. It is New Zealand’s premier youth orchestra, preparing young musicians as they embark upon their professional careers. Since its foundation, more than 2,000 musicians aged between 18 and 24 have played with the orchestra and have been able to gather valuable experience as orchestral musicians with seasoned tutors and outstanding conductors. The Auckland Youth Symphony Orchestra, originally set up to close the gap between school and professional adult orchestras, evolved into a concert and tour ensemble that has already performed in more than 100 places. Past highlights include several guest tours in Tasmania and performances in Hawaii and on the North American continent. The orchestra is appearing at Young Euro Classic for the first time in 2011.
